Terms of Service
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and the operator of "Bite" (readthewater.net) ("we", "us") governing your use of the Bite app and website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Who may use Bite
You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to create an account. By using the Service you confirm you meet this requirement and that the information you give us is accurate. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login details secure.
3. What Bite provides — and its limits
Bite offers fishing-related information and tools, including AI-generated suggestions (species likelihoods, tackle and bait advice, photo "reads"), weather and tide data from third-party providers, water and water-temperature estimates, maps of fishing spots and marks, and listings of tackle shops, venues and guides. All of this is provided for general guidance only. It may be incomplete, inaccurate, estimated or out of date, and AI output can be wrong. You should not rely on it as the sole basis for any decision.
4. Safety and your own responsibility
Fishing — especially shore, rock and boat angling — carries real risks. You are solely responsible for your own safety and for assessing conditions, tides, weather and access for yourself before and during any trip. Tide, weather and water-temperature information in the Service is estimated and must not be used for navigation or safety-critical decisions. Always check official local sources.
5. Licences, permits and the law
You are responsible for holding any rod licence, club membership, day ticket or permit required where you fish, and for complying with all fishing regulations, byelaws, close seasons, size and catch limits, and access rules that apply. Regulatory information in the Service is a guide only — verify it with the relevant authority before you fish.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, catch logs and other content you upload ("Your Content"). You grant us a licence to host, store and process Your Content so we can provide the Service (for example, running AI identification and showing your catch history). You confirm you have the right to upload Your Content and that it does not break the law or these Terms.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service: no unlawful, harmful, abusive or infringing activity; no attempts to disrupt, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access; no scraping or automated bulk extraction; and no uploading of content you have no right to share. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms.
8. Third-party services and links
The Service relies on and links to third parties (for example weather, mapping and shop data, and external websites shown in-app). We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability.
9. Paid features
Bite is currently free to use. If we introduce paid plans or in-app purchases, we will set out the pricing, billing, renewal, cancellation and refund terms before you buy, consistent with the app-store rules that apply. Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed and managed by those stores under their terms; you cancel them in your store account settings, and refunds are handled under the store's refund policy.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, so far as the law allows. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service — including decisions made on the basis of its information. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence).
11. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material we will take reasonable steps to let you know. The "last updated" date above shows the current version; continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Ending your use
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or where we are required to by law.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we are established, and nothing in them limits any mandatory consumer protections you have under the law of the country where you live.
